A Kimono Experience in Kyoto

Gion Streets
During our visit to Kyoto, we were lucky enough to try on kimonos and walk through Gion, one of Kyoto's most traditional areas also known as the geisha district. After arriving at the kimono studio and selecting our kimonos of choice, the battle began.

I was under the impression that putting on a kimono was easy. Boy was I mistaken! Not only will you be wearing multiple layers (6 to be exact) but I highly suggest you go on a liquid diet before trying one of those things on because they definitely DO NOT come in plus sizes!!! I was literally squeezed into my kimono but it was damn well worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Oh and lets not forget about the weird socks you have to wear! They literally look like lobster claws with two openings: one for your big toe and one for the rest of your toes. Accompanying the weird socks are the wooden wedge sandals/flip flops which aren't that bad IF worn with regular socks.

Below are the ending results of the 30 minute battle as well as pictures of some friends we met along the way.
