We rode the bullet train from Hakone to Kyoto. The ride was 2 - 3 hours and freaking awesome! The inside of the train looks just like an airplane - the first class section that is. It has large comfy seats that recline as well as the pulldown tray in the seat in front of you. They even have a "stewardess" walking around with a cart selling beverages and snacks. Unfortunately, I was too lazy to take pics inside the train.
Running at about 180 mph, the bullet train is one of the most popular (and expensive as hell) ways of traveling around in Japan. Thankfully, tourists get a break from the exorbitant prices by purchasing a Japan Rail Pass (in our country) prior to departure.
Don't get me wrong, the pass it still pricey but nowhere near as much as paying per ride or purchasing tickets in Japan. It's definitely worth the money, especially if the bullet train is going to be the primary means of transportation. The pass is also good for other rail trains throughout the country (but not for subways in any city).
I would definitely not mind riding the bullet train on a daily basis.
